After the Body

The figure has never left painting. It has only learned to hide differently. After the Body brings together nine works that engage with the human form not as subject but as residue — the impression left in a bed, the shadow on a wall, the garment without its wearer. These are figurative works in which the figure is conspicuously, pointedly absent. What remains is more intimate for it. The artists in this auction work across painting, sculpture, and photography. What connects them is a shared refusal of the body as spectacle. The body here is implied, inferred, mourned.
